It was a tremendous weekend of sport last weekend for the Prep School. Seven athletes traveled to Bath University for the GB Schools Biathlon event. These children had been selected from qualifying events nationwide. The competition was highly competitive, and the atmosphere, particularly in the pool, was intense. However the children represented the school brilliantly. Special congratulations to Jonty, who achieved an impressive 11th place nationally.

Something a little less intense but just as exciting was the U8 team that travelled to Millfield for their Netball festival. The girls had a fantastic morning of netball and showed a huge improvement in their match play as the morning progressed. They demonstrated strong passing skills and more confidence when shooting. They should also be commended on the enthusiasm, determination and sportsmanship they showed throughout the tournament. Well done, girls!

U11B
In a dramatic and hard-fought final game of the season, the team showcased an unbelievable work ethic to secure a well-earned victory. Facing a 2-1 deficit, the players demonstrated resilience, determination, and outstanding teamwork to stage a remarkable comeback.
From the first whistle, it was clear this was going to be a battle. Solid in defence, Queen’s backline absorbed pressure with composure, cutting out dangerous attacks and keeping our structure. Meanwhile, the team’s attack remained relentless, creating opportunities and testing the opposition with quick passes and smart movement.
With numerous leaders stepping up across the pitch, the team refused to back down. The equaliser came through sheer persistence, and from there, momentum swung in our favour. Rosslyn Park National Schools Rugby 7’s Tournament
The Rosslyn Park National Schools Rugby 7’s Tournament, the largest of its kind in the world, lived up to its reputation once again this year. With an impressive 15,000 players participating, it was an event that showcased the incredible talent from across the globe, bringing together young rugby stars, including our very own U14 boys, for an unforgettable competition.
The Queen’s boys had three challenging encounters in their pool, facing Bryanston School, Eastbourne College, and Hymers College. Each match proved to be a learning experience for the boys, and despite the stiff competition, they delivered performances that were nothing short of impressive.
The boys got off to a strong start against Hymers College, showing excellent teamwork and determination in their first match. The dynamic attacking play was complemented by solid defensive structure, with standout performances all around. Kirk and Felix both adding to the scoresheet.
The second match versus Eastbourne College saw the boys further improve, with Felix at the heart of playmaking, controlling the tempo of the game and creating numerous opportunities for his teammates. The tournament proved to be a wonderful experience for the boys, and their effort and commitment were truly commendable.
Netball
U13A v Lewston
What a thrilling way to conclude a highly competitive season! The team traveled to Leweston for a closely contested rematch, having drawn 10-10 in their previous encounter. Despite trailing by one goal after the first quarter, the girls remained determined from the outset.
By halftime, they had fought their way to a two-goal lead, showing sharp interceptions and an impressive hunger for possession—one of their key strengths throughout the season. Their attacking play was dynamic, with well-placed feeds into the circle overcoming a strong defensive opposition. However, a few misplaced mid-court passes allowed the fast and tenacious opponents opportunities to regain possession.
The final quarter was a nail-biter. Leading by one goal, the team found themselves battling from behind before securing another remarkable draw at 23-23. The high-scoring, high-quality netball on display was a testament to their resilience and teamwork. A large squad was rotated throughout the match, with every player making valuable contributions to what has been a fantastic season.
1st v Downside
The 1st team wrapped up their season in style with a hard-fought win over Downside School in a match that truly showcased the team’s growth and all of the hard work put into training this term.
It was a tough game to go in, to at home with supporters watching. Especially having played them previously this term, the girls had an automatic assumption of how the game was going to go. But they proved themselves wrong! They engaged well with strong defence and quick attacking play. Each quarter saw some excellent play from both sides, with the ball moving swiftly up and down the court. Working on high release of the ball and a double lead drive to get into space in training was really evident in this game. A fantastic end to a positive season!
2nd v Downside
The Queen’s 2nd Netball team faced a tough challenge against Downside 2nd Netball Team in a thrilling encounter that showcased intense competition and skill. From the start, both teams displayed great energy, with Queen’s taking every opportunity to move to good space for the ball; this was successful thanks to their quick ball movement and precise centre pass attack set ups. Downside responded well, with a strong defensive effort and some sharp attacking play.
U15A v Downside
What a way to finish the season U15A’s! A scenic journey to the beautiful Downside School and the team filled the minibus with high spirits and song both there and back!
We started with the team mostly in their strongest positions but also with a few risky tweaks – they were ready to showcase the skills they have developed this season. That they certainly did. Izzy tried GD instead of GK to maximize movement on the court which paid off and Evvie and Meg kicked off the first quarter on shooting form. After the first 10 minutes, the score was 3-2 to us. At half-time a 6-6 draw.
Maka made many great interceptions on the edge of the center third and Sasha delivered consistently as center. The composure on the ball that the team achieved these last few games is outstanding. After each quarter, the team were able to build on their constructive feedback. The excitement and positivity remained throughout. After 3/4 the score was 8-6 to Queen’s.
This match the team also proved their stamina has also developed this season. With most players on and playing just as hard from start to end of the 40 minutes. The final score was 11-8 and the team were so engrossed in the match that on the final whistle they had to ask if they had won before they celebrated!
U15B v Downside
The U15 travelled to Downside School on Saturday for their final match of the season. Spirits were high and singing filled the bus, and the energy stayed the whole day. Well done to Mia for her consistent shooting, securing overall 12 goals for Queen’s, despite being marked by an A-team opponent once they saw how strong a player she was. Due to reduced numbers for this team, they played the whole 40 minutes and we borrowed some A’s, which meant some of them played 70 minutes! Lara demonstrated versatility, playing GK and GS. The defence was strong and Mary, as centre regulated the flow of the game. The score at half-time was 11-1 and the match finished on 12-5. A great end to a great season.
U14A v Downside
A superb end to the season and a very strong performance from the U14A’s. The team were quick to get going, taking a heavy lead in the 1st quarter with some accurate shooting from Teniore. The team dominated the centre court and used the overheads to full advantage. Talya and Hannah made some superb interceptions in defence during the second half to keep the opposing team score down. Great confidence and team spirit and a pleasure to umpire and watch.
U14B
A great win to finish the season on a high. The 14B’s were a little slow to get started and struggled with the wind and were 5-2 down at half time. Some great work from the defence prevented any goals being scored by Downside in the 3rd quarter and they were able to take a 1 goal lead into the final 10 mins. Great perseverance and teamwork allowed the team to increase their lead and achieve a well-earned win. The team deserved this for their great attitude and team spirit throughout the term.
Super Saturday
The day began with enthusiasm as teams took to the field, delivering thrilling performances in front of a fantastic crowd. Both ends of the Queen’s campus were alive with energy as a series of closely contested matches kept spectators on the edge of their seats.
But Super Saturday was more than just a showcase of athletic prowess; it was a celebration of community spirit and togetherness. The sidelines were lined with enthusiastic supporters, braving the weather to cheer on their friends, classmates, and loved ones. Whether it was parents proudly cheering or fellow students leading chants, the festival-like atmosphere was evident throughout the day—a true reflection of the Queen’s spirit.
