The Prep School string players had an exciting day this week, they were joined by a group of 23 talented violinists from Oake, Bradford, and Nynehead CE Primary School. Some of these visiting musicians were experiencing the school for the very first time! The arrival of the visitors was eagerly awaited by all the Prep School violinists and cellists from Years 2 to 6.
The day delved into various aspects of string playing. The students focused on proper posture, mastering bow technique, creating dynamic sounds, and even explored the art of playing a tremolo. The pupils were enthralled by a special performance by Mrs. Gullick’s Senior School cello quartet. This provided them with a unique opportunity to experience live music up close and witness exceptional skill firsthand.
The day’s musical journey centered around Christine Gibbs’ “The Tortoise and the Hare.” The performance featured solo performances, captivating narration by Mrs. Morgan, and an array of sound effects to bring the story to life. The final performance was a highlight, with Year 2 students attending and being completely captivated by the experience. They were a truly attentive audience!
A heartfelt thank you goes out to Mrs. Morgan and her dedicated team, as well as Mrs. Gullick for her outstanding leadership and boundless energy throughout the day!
