This season has presented several challenges for the Queen’s College Greenpower Motorsport team, with races scheduled during holidays and other conflicts. Nevertheless, the team managed to participate in their first race of the 2024 season on Wednesday. Preparations were completed the night before, which proved essential for the early 5 a.m. departure. The team arrived at Predannack Airfield near Helston around 8 a.m., eager to see the results of the numerous improvements made over the winter.

While testing at Goodwood had shown promise, the true test would be during this race. Speed, though important, is only one aspect of success; reliability is equally crucial. Unfortunately, on the first corner, the rear axle slipped within the bearings and shifted, causing the chain to come off. The team returned to the pits, realigned the axle, and faced difficulties tightening the grub screws. The use of imperial hardware, particularly in a student competition, proved frustrating.

After borrowing a 3/32 inch allen key, the team managed to get the car back on the track. Once racing resumed, the team achieved the second-fastest time, trailing only behind an impressive machine built by university students. The event also provided ample opportunity to engage with other teams and exchange valuable insights.
