Queen’s Pupils Celebrate GCSE Grades 68% Higher Than The National Average

Queen’s Pupils Celebrate GCSE Grades 68% Higher Than The National Average

Posted: 22nd August 2024

Queen’s College has once again been celebrating this morning, this time with our GCSE cohort. It was lovely to see so many pupils coming in to school, purely to celebrate with their friends and teachers, results had reached them by email at 8am.

We are proud to report that our top grades (9-7) are 68% higher than the national average with 40% of the Queen’s College cohort achieving a grade 9 with many gaining multiple top grades.

Julian Noad, Head of College, said “The headlines are pleasing but, moreover, I am enormously proud of our pupils and their many stories of individual success. I am also grateful to the fantastic staff who provide such wonderful support. GCSE results day is a significant point in every young person’s career and yet just a stepping stone in Queen’s preparation ‘For Life’. I look forward to seeing our returning sixth formers continue to build in confidence and skill, benefiting in particular from the guidance and challenge of the Queen’s Diploma, an extension of and support to our excellent A-level and BTec provision.”

Three of our top academic performers were Angela, Martha and Florence, all of whom achieved seven grade 9s amongst their GCSE results and go on to A Level study. Angela’s results include a grade 9 in English Literature in her second language. In the sixth form she will be studying A Levels in Maths, Business Studies, English Literature and Art.

We would also like to extend a huge congratulations to Adam. Adam, who joined Queen’s College as a boarding student in year six, achieved three grade 9s, five grade 8s and a grade 6. Adam was Queen’s College Climbing Captain this year and next year will be in the sixth form studying for A Levels in Biology, Chemistry and Maths and also a BTec in Outdoor Education.

Queen’s College is a non selective school and results day is about celebrating the journey that everyone has made to success. Flora (one grade 8, six grade 6s and one grade 5) is a very good example of how hard work and a supportive teaching environment enables our students to flourish, gain in confidence and gain an excellent set of results. Flora not only did well academically, but also takes full advantage of co-curricular opportunities at Queen’s. In sixth form, Flora is planning to study a Performing Arts BTec as well as A-levels in Textiles and Sociology.

The vast majority of GCSE students choose to continue their studies in our sixth form. For those for whom a specialist vocational pathway is most appropriate, the preparation and guidance throughout key stage four is perfect preparation for their next steps in education. Max is a shining example of a student who has embraced his time at Queen’s College and leaves to pursue a specialist pathway studying a Level Three Land, Wildlife and Fisheries course at Sparsholt College, Winchester, alongside obtaining 9 GCSE’s. We are hugely proud of Max who is Vice Captain of the England Youth Fly Fishing team.

We would also like to highlight the achievements of two very special students Ali and Mohammed. They joined Queen’s in year five as refugees from Syria with no English. They have overcome many hurdles over the last six years and with their superb work ethic and support from their teachers have secured an excellent set of GCSE results, including some top science grades in particular. Mohammed will be studying A Levels in Maths, Physics and Chemistry and Ali will be studying A Levels in Biology, Chemistry and Physics at Queen’s College next year.

Join us for our Sixth Form Open Evening on Tuesday 15 October.
