Last week, the new cohort of Year 7 pupils enjoyed an unforgettable trip to Biblins Youth Campsite, aimed at helping them bond as a year group. The adventure began in the picturesque Wye Valley under sunny skies, but as soon as tents were being erected, the weather turned to heavy rain, adding an extra challenge to the experience.
Over three days, the pupils took part in a range of outdoor activities, including rock climbing, cycling, hiking, and canoeing. Despite the physical and mental challenges these activities presented – especially for those trying them for the first time – everybody participated with enthusiasm and determination.
The first night proved especially tough as temperatures plummeted, and campers woke to find the equipment covered in a heavy frost. However, the pupils remained undeterred, embracing the adventure with smiles and good spirits. Each evening was capped off with hot chocolate around the campfire, as the pupils relaxed under the stars and reflected on their adventures. It was a perfect opportunity to forge new friendships in a unique and beautiful setting.
A huge thank you goes to the staff who made the trip possible. Mr Neenan, Mr Marsh, Miss Dowrick, Mr Biggs, Miss Tarrant, Mrs Cadwallader, Mrs Mews and Mrs Lockyer all ensured the pupils had a memorable experience. Thanks also to Mr Rance for driving and to Mrs McAlonan for the organising. Even OQ Will Barnes returned to assist with the canoeing – though his raft was spectacularly sunk by Antonin, much to the delight of everyone!
Congratulations to Year 7 for embracing all of the challenges and making this trip such a resounding success!
