Faculty Extension Sessions October 2024

Faculty Extension Sessions October 2024

Last night marked the beginning of the Faculty Extension Sessions at Queen’s , complete with a special ‘scholars’ supper’ for those in attendance. The evening offered a diverse range of sessions designed to push pupils’ academic boundaries beyond their regular curriculum.

The youngest Senior pupils enjoyed an engaging session led by Mrs. Litton and Mr. Green, where they explored the concept of the soul and its portrayal in both literature and philosophy. Meanwhile, GCSE pupils focused on food provenance and cultural identity, learning through a combination of food and language. It was particularly fascinating to see how much the pupils understood when the recipe was explained entirely in German—thanks to demonstrations, the instructions were perfectly clear.

Sixth Form students took on the challenge of understanding global economics through a practical exercise that highlighted the difficulties faced by some countries in the global economic climate.

Halfway through the evening, a delicious meal was served by the catering team, and the dining hall buzzed with conversation as pupils discussed their sessions. The Faculty Extension Sessions proved to be a very successful new initiative, with pupils fully engaged in thought-provoking discussions and activities.
