Nursery
The children in Highgrove have had another busy week.
In Cottontails the children have been reading ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. In their role-play area, they have been ‘feeding’ the caterpillar, creating a caterpillar collage painting. Cottontails have also enjoyed sensory experiences of making sounds with the musical instrumental and blowing and popping bubbles.
Tiggywinkles have been showing an interest in insects and bugs, following on from their book ‘Walter’s Wonderful Web’. They have been watching how snails move and ‘searching’ for insects in the sensory tray. They have also been learning about the different shapes Walter makes for his webs.
Meanwhile Puddleducks have been focusing on ‘superheroes’. They practised their fine motor skills by making superhero masks and had fun trying on different costumes from the role play. Puddleducks have also used the recent sunny weather as inspiration for their sand play by pretending to make ice creams.
Minis
The Queen’s Minis continued their exploration of nature this week! They watched in awe as their pet caterpillars transformed into chrysalises, a magical reminder of metamorphosis. The nursery garden buzzed with activity as the Minis diligently planted beans. They also took home pots filled with sunflower seeds, where they could nurture a touch of sunshine.
Getting ready for Sports Day, the Minis practised their galloping and jumping skills, preparing to hurdle their way to victory in the upcoming races. They also unleashed their inner dancers in a captivating dance session led by Miss Bryony, who used imaginative scenarios to guide them through key ballet moves.
Thursday brought a delightful treat! The Minis visited the College’s new coffee shop, “The Wyvern Roost,” where they enjoyed delicious vanilla and blueberry frappes and gingerbread men. They then took their sweet treats outside to soak up the sunshine on the playing fields.
The week culminated in a fascinating Forest School trip to Fyne Court’s walled garden. Transformed into intrepid minibeast detectives, the children, armed with explorers’ rucksacks containing magnifying glasses, bug containers, and spotter sheets, were delighted to discover a variety of snails, slugs, beetles, and ants.
