Queen’s College Taunton proudly announces that alumna Rebecca Wilde has advanced to the finals of the 2024 Paris Olympics in the Women’s Double Sculls Rowing event. Wilde, partnering with Mathilda Hodgkins-Byrne, secured their spot in the final by finishing second in the semi-final with an impressive time of 6:51.82, just 0.41 seconds behind the Romanian team.

Wilde’s journey to the Olympics is a remarkable testament to her dedication and perseverance. She earned her place on Team GB after an outstanding performance at the Final Olympic Qualification Regatta in Switzerland earlier this year. Prior to rowing, Wilde excelled at the national level as a swimmer for a decade, representing Wales internationally. While studying at Bath University, she transitioned to rowing and joined the Talent ID programme World Class Start.

Her athletic prowess is perhaps unsurprising given her background: both of her parents are teachers at Queen’s College Taunton and have competed in sports at an international level. Her brother and sister have also followed in the family’s athletic footsteps participating at international level, further highlighting the exceptional sporting environment that has surrounded her.

Rebecca Wilde’s success brings immense pride to her family, friends, and the entire Queen’s College Taunton community. As she prepares to compete in the final, her journey stands as a shining example of resilience and determination.
