Mid-Somerset Festival

Mid-Somerset Festival

After an eventful journey to Bath, the Year 6, 7 and 8 public speakers participated in the Mid-Somerset Festival. The Year 6s presented individual speeches on topics of their choice, whereas the Year 7s and 8s were in groups of three and presented debates on whether insects should be a commonplace food source, whether electric cars should replace diesel cars and whether robots should replace teachers! The public speakers enjoyed presenting their speeches, which represented a term’s worth of work during their co-curricular club.

Following constructive advice from the judges, the pupils did not walk away empty-handed. Ruby won the Year 6 competition with Poppy coming in second. Meanwhile, Jack, Antonin and Charlie won the Year 7 and 8 competition and in doing so, came away with a trophy steeped in history and tradition. The competition was one centred around environmental debate but has since been widened to cover more topics, however, the original trophy, pictured below, still remains and the Queen’s team were rightly proud to receive it!
