Founded in 1843 by leading local Methodists and originally named the West of England Wesleyan Proprietary Grammar School, Queen’s College took on its present name in 1887 to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee. The school’s guiding aims include:
- To be a caring Christian family community that is committed to fostering each individual’s full potential, considering both personal qualities and academic aspirations.
- To uphold high educational standards in all academic, cultural, and sporting pursuits, promoting a passion for learning and disciplined study for all students, regardless of ability.
- To engage actively with the wider community it serves, encouraging meaningful contributions and partnerships.
- To worship as Christians within the Methodist tradition, embedding Christian values in both practice and teaching. The school provides a strong religious education curriculum, welcoming students of all faiths with openness and tolerance.
- To encourage pupils in examining societal standards and values critically, supporting them in discovering and developing a personal faith that will guide them throughout their lives.
